A child was hospitalized Monday, January 5, following a dog attack in a Lynchburg neighborhood, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
Police say officers responded to the 700 block of Grady Street after receiving a report that a child had been attacked by a neighbor’s dog. During the investigation, officers determined the child suffered a severe bite injury to the arm.
The child was transported to Carilion Children’s Hospital, where they were treated and listed in stable condition, police said.
Authorities confirmed the dog’s owner surrendered the animal. The dog was euthanized and will be tested for rabies in accordance with standard protocol.
